Food supplements are among the most tightly regulated of foods, with multiple layers of regulation that interact, overlap and are sometimes contradictory.

The food supplements regulatory workshop will give you an understanding of the regulatory environment for food supplements, including the Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation and the labelling of food supplements.

From 1 January 2021 the regulations governing food supplements in the UK and the EU are dealt with under separate legal and regulatory systems. Content for the workshop has been updated, following the UK’s exit from the EU, to include signposting to EU retained legislation as well as highlighting relevant changes coming into effect.

We’ll take you through each of the relevant requirements and what you need to do to ensure your products are compliant.

The food supplements regulatory workshop covers:

  • Who’s responsible for food and food supplements regulation? – legislation and key organisations
  • Nutrition and health claims
  • Advertising and self-regulation
  • Medicinal vs. health claims
  • Introduction to food supplements labelling requirements

Who should attend?

People working in a regulatory role relating to over-the-counter food supplements products. The workshop is also recommended for marketing teams and agencies working with clients on food supplements products to better understand the regulatory environment.

PAGB also offers a separate food supplements advertising workshop which covers the do’s and don’ts of food supplements advertising.

Format

This workshop will be run as a full-day session from 10am – 4pm.

The workshop is delivered by members of the PAGB advertising and regulatory teams who use a combination of presentations and case studies during the sessions and encourage interaction and questions. You will receive copies of the presentations, practical examples and other useful materials to take away, and we’ll send you a certificate of attendance after the event.
